There is always a lot of debate about flow.. turnover.. etc.. regardless good flow is needed for sps.
After i get this next shipment in.. I will be at about 27x turnover.. Will this be enough?

From what I understand you need at least about 40x turnover or so.

Thats what I always heard too.. Is there anything that could result negatively from 40x? It seems my frogspawn gets beat to you know what under high flow lol.

You have to arrange your corals according to flow as well as light. No matter how much flow you have you will have low flow zones. Which is where you want to put the lower flow corals.
You do want ALOT of flow for SPS or their wastes and algaes will suffocate them to death, or they may starve due to food not making it to them.
You can position the corals where they need to be. You can have 100X flow and still have dead/low flow spots somewhere.

Yes and this is a good example as to why it's harder to do a mixed tank rather than just SPS, or softies etc. It's not just about flow as in Gph, its about flow as in laminar Vs Stream as well. You can have one power head pushing 500 Gph laminar (jet) and it will do far more damage than a prop type pump such as a Vortech or Tunze doing the same output. Gentle alternating but strong stream flow if best as opposed to a jet type flow. You can blow the tissue right out of an LPS if they are placed to close to either though. Learn placement on LPS to have better luck with them in the long run. Place them under power heads where there isn't much flow hitting them. Just don't place them to close or it can kill them quickly. As for SPS though 45 X turn over is medium flow IMO.

I think Jo-Mars still has the frogspawn I almost killed with to much flow years ago. Barry has nursed it back to health at least twice that I know of.

,,,My main pump is gonne be an mj1200 modded with a prop. 2000gph mmmmm sort of, the mod will produce a great deal of flow but realisticly its closer to 1000 gph. The Mj1200 only does 295 gph un-moded, still a nice amount of flow either way plus unlike some other pumps MJs can be cycled on and off without problem.

yeah i found a cheap wave timer. Just dont understand wherw to place the pumps to be optimal. If this mj works well then may get another and try the timer.

I would like to do the wave motion in mine but it worries me. I have an old 90 gallon that has no center brace at all and I just dont know if I trust it with the force of wave motion.

If I were to buy a cheaper powerhead it would be the seio. Unless you already have the modded maxijets then I would use them. If you have to buy the modded maxis you would probably have more in them once you buy a magnet, the kit and the pump than a seio. If I were to buy a really good powerhead I would probably buy a vortech for a smaller tank or a tunze for a larger tank considering I could position the flow better with the tunze.
Gary, Idk if you would have problems or not. I think it could cause a seam to pop without the center brace but there really is no way to know for sure.

I have a vortech and an seio 1000 in my tank. everything seems to be ok and growing. Eventually I want 2 vortechs. I just dont really trust it without the center brace and the thought of the pressure.

You could add a euro brace if you research it and do it correctly. I would rather have a eurobrace than a middle brace anyways.

it would depend on how thick that brace is to me, to wide and it make cleaning and doing anything in the tank a pain
