Tank doesn't even have water in it yet so any suggestions will be considered. I'm thinking some Riccia fluitans for the front. Thanks in advance.

Ricia works good, just be sure to have something to mount it too. If you have high light and CO2 you can use glosostigma as a covering if not dwarf or micro sword works quite well IMO.

I've been researching the DIY co2 setups so I just need to get some more lights.

I had co2 on my old planted tank and it did wonders. Well worth it.

I have used the old hagen version of this and the hydor version. They are all basic fermenters, they don't last long but will work on a smaller tank and make a noticeable difference. You will likely get tired of messing with it after a few months by this time the tanks plant life will be abundant and you will have the plants producing enough CO2 at night to sustain themselves as long as there is not too much gas escape during the day.

The refills say they last for a month. I figured I would start with that setup until I can afford to get a pressurized system.

Just go with the 2l pop bottle and make your own, I have the recipe somewhere. I need to redo all my jugs today. I'll post directions later for ya. Oh yeah, Your gonna need a real good light. A couple watts per gallon would be a nice start.

I have been using a DIY CO2 generator that I made out of a cranberry juice bottle and a few other supplies. I think the whole thing cost me a bout $5. I was not sure of how effective it would be but it is definitely making a difference for the plants. My buddy bought some plants and gave me some of his since he bought too many. At this point my plants are about a third larger than his and look a lot healthier. If anyone wants some instructions on how to make a CO2 generator I would definitely be able to help.

I attached a DIY for a CO2 generator. It is a .pdf . I actually combined a couple that I used when I was building mine to make this guide. I actually use some fruit and winemaking yeast in my setup. This lets me have 2 usable end products(CO2 and wine) -LOL. Please let me know if anybody has any questions and I will try to answer as best as I can. Attachments:

Yep! That's how I do it. I add 1/4 tsp of baking soda to kill the alcohol.
