The Tri-color has returned!!!! It has been fragged into 3 1 inch segments.
Jeff is now the holder of the Tyree Bali tri-color. We are looking for 2 others who can keep this coral and take on the responsibility of this link. Best of luck Jeff!!

First of all I want to thank you for the opportunity to keep this coral. A lot of you guys alread know me and know what I keep but for those of you that don't my tank is mostly Softy's & LPS. I did pickup some SPS at this swap including the Bali Tri Color so I hope I can give them what they need to stay healthy and grow. This is how everything tested as of last night.
My tank: 110g 60x18x23 + 30g sump/fuge on reverse light cycle CA = 420 Alk = 8 dkh PH = 8.2 SG = 1.025 Phos. = .5 Nitrate = 0 Light = 2x250 SE 14K 8hrs + 2x54 T5HO True Actinic 03 12hrs Powerheads = 1 Seio 1100 & 1 Seio 1500 Return= Via Aqua 525gph
The only thing I tested that I worry about is the phos. It was higher before (around 1) I add some phos remover at the recomendation of Ron but it looks as though its just not enough to keep it in check. Maybe its just time to invest in a phos reacter. Recomendations? I have also spoke to several of you about my problem of blowing sand with the addition of the seio pumps. I am leaning toward removing it as I just can't seem to find a spot that the sand will stay on the bottom. Should I just start removing a little at a time or is there a better way? I'll try and take some new pic's tonight and get them posted up tonight.

Take out a little at a time, you don't want to mess with the overal balance of you biotope to much. Pull some out 1/2 inch off the top, wait a few weeks and repeat till you get the results your after. You may not have to remove all of it, just go slow.

It seems the only way I can get the sand to quit blowing around is to point my powerheads at the back glass.

I had the same problem, I pointed them up for awhile and that seemed to help it settle then I gradually move them to just shoot strait.

It seems that even if I try to just shoot them straight across they still mess up my sand. Like I said the only way I have found so far is to aim them at the back wall.

Wow that guy is beautiful.
I hope you get your sand problem worked out. that can really be a pain. like ron said though you might not have to take it all out to solve the problem.
Your lucky to have such a beautiful frag in your tank

it is a rare coral and it will grow out, this is not a coral you can just run around and find everywhere you look, thats the point in the chain coral thread to find out what works and what dont so the public can be informed of what this guy needs.

I don't understand why is this coral do much it's so small. I mean I might pay like $100 for that big one in the pics at the top. This is a very wanted coral. Therefore its price is higher than most other coral. It comes down to economics/ supply and demand. Please do some research on Tyree coral and you will find more information about the coral. This is not something that is common and sold at LFS.

Hello, I picked up the frag last Tuesday. As of today no growth noticed. Polyps are coming out and is starting to regain color. I put it in a spot that will not give me a good picture, so I need to know how can I break the plug that is on so that I can mount it with cement. I just need to shorten the plug.
It is in under 150 M/H just off center with the Sieo 1500. It is close by a blue tort that I purchased at the swap and it has doubled in size and is the prettiest blue that you can imagine. PH 8.3 temp 79 calc 420-460 Alk 12 Ammo/trites 0 trates <5
Once I shorten the plug and mount it, I will post a picture it is small about 3/4 -1" and one branch.
Thanks for the opportunity to help my fellow salties.

Torts are aggressive SPS and do not do well with others. I would not worry about trying to break the plug. In time the frag will encrust the entire plug. Just don't let it touch the tort.

update with out pics. Good news and bad news-- Bad news,I tried to set plug in hole and I guess my crab didnot like it there. It moves small rocks and anything not glued down. The frag broke off the plug.
Good news, The frag is doing great. I mounted on a rock and it is now starting to encrust the epoxy. There is also a small branch forming! It is only about 1/4" but that is a start. The color is not real vivid but the frag is small. I see the polyps out alot.
I will post pics in the near future.
