I had 260 watts of PC light. I injected co2. I had Flourite mixed with the gravel as a slow release fertilizer. I never touched the gravel as far a vaccuming or anything. I also did not do water changes except like once every 6 months. I did top off with water about every 3 days and that was quite a bit as it was an open top tank. I think leaving it open helps also to help with gas exchange. About once a month I would add leaf zone for extra fertilizer. Other then that I did nothing to that tank except pull out dead leaves occasionally.

The keep it simple approach. I like it.
