2 Questions here:
1) What are your thoughts on 47 gal column tank? (pros, cons)
2) What would be suggested hardware to run a 47 gal column, Angel tank?
Bonus) Does anyone have an idea of where to go to get custom stands built or know anything about them?

The column tanks arent my personal thing but I have seen some done really nice. I do like the big ones that you can put in the corner and they go all the way to the ceiling. I would suggest a nice canister filter.
Try to build your own stand. There are all kinds of DIY articles out there.

It depends on what you want the tank to look like, a canister is nice but you can use a bigger hangon back filter for that size tank, the aqueon filters work well. Use heater rated at 55 watts some gravel and rocks if you like. There are some members who build their own stands but they tend to cost more than a typical stand if you have one customized. What are the dimensions on the tank?

I really like the looks of the emperor 400 hang on the back filter (HOB). I dont have one but would like to get one next.

The dimensions of the tank are 20 3/16" L X 18 3/16" W X 63 5/16" H
The stand idea I am toying with is to have two of the 47 columns on either side of a bigger 55+ gallon tank I am thinking. So it would be to hold three tanks with two of them elevated to show thier height off even more. just what is going through my head.

The only problem I see with these tanks is getting the lighting to reach the bottom.

Good to know. I do like having live plants and didn't think about that issue. How is that issue usually solved. My only experience with plants in tanks is just putting some into our 29 and seeing what happens... some have done well and others just sort of die off...

Live plants need light. With a tank that deep you'd need some good ones. I was gonna set up a planted hex with plants attach to a central tower to get them closer to the light. It was'nt that deep. So.....Go big go bright. Co2 and ferts help also. EDIT; Are you sure it's 63" tall?

On a 47 column tank I think the depth of the tank is 30". I think the 63 is with a stand.

yeah sorry bout that, didn't get online for a couple of days so havn't checked here throughly. The measurement of 63" was including the stand. If i did the math right the tank itself is 34 1/16" inches high. The stand is 29.5 high
