I'm not trying to bust your chops here, but is it really responsible to buy an animal or animals that require live food without a source of live food? You didn't mention that you had a source in your post and I am hoping that you do have one... What are your plans to wean them to frozen food? Please keep us apprised to the situation....

It's not like they require live mysids or something. Live baby brine shrimp. Likewise, I don't mean to bust YOUR chops, but how do you justify underestimating me when i've only made one post about the seahorses? Just because I didn't mention a live food source doesn't mean I don't have one. I'm not sure if you've ever raised baby brine shrimp before, but it's pretty elementary. ANYWAY, They came today, after me pestering the post office for an hour or two. 3 males, 3 females. 2 males are pregnant. By the looks of their pouches, pretty far along. I'm guessing that i'll have fry in the next day or two. My basement makes a bit of a racket now, with bbs hatcheries bubbling away in the basement. Heh. My mom looooooooooooooooves the sound and smell of brine shrimp...not...lol. I'll get some pictures up shortly, after i'm done feeding them their !***live food***!, which I spent about 3 hours preparing for them today...they're worth it.

I think you will find Chris was asking the question because he and I are against needless deaths in aquariums of many animals that are being sold to consumers who have no clue how to sustain them long term. I'm sure he's not insinuating that you fall into that category, obviously you do not as you have done research on them and have a good idea of their basic needs.
But others who read this may look at your post and think. "Well it's not all that hard, if he can do so can I." This is why you see me always commenting on those who insist on trying to keep certain animals that cannot be maintained reasonably for a period of time. I always get the same stupid quote about. "Well no one could keep SPS either but look now." That's pretty much the same quoted rally call of those who need justification to continue killing animals in the name of nothing but a title of being the first to get animal X to live for 1 year. Never mind the fact that animal X lives 10 years in the wild, we see 1 year as a triumph. Truth is some SPS were kept right from the start in the first marine aquariums and when they began to die off people knew what they needed to have for long term health that's why halides entered the arena as a serious reef tank light source and more powerful pumps were employed.
The difference is that we knew the technology needed to keep SPS and other coral it just eluded us at the time, but with certain rare aposymbiotic animals we still have no real way to emulate exactly what they need. Im sure you agree that giving something exactly what it needs rather than what is convenient for us to give it is a better practice and much more responsible than just trying to change the animals natural habits.
Again no one is doubting your methods, we are only underlying for others readig this that this is not an easy species to maintain.

Well, as anyone reading this thread, may construe the "nervous about a live food source" when there is nothing mentioned in post about having a source at all... it generates concern... again, knowing about the failed attempts of a lot of people trying to keep dwarf seahorses, locally and nationally, just leaves one wanting a little more info.. I wasn't flaming you, but dealing with the limited information could lead other less experienced people into attempting the same thing you are, without your experience keeping seahorses... goes without saying, but good luck with the dwarfs and let us know how it goes!

Yeah, after I read back over your reply, I realized you were questioning. Sorry!
