I am in need of a new halide bulb and was wondering if there is any brand I should stay away from.

People will have different opinions on bulbs. The best I can tell you is stay with brnd name bulbs such as XMs, hamiltons, Ushios, Iwasakis, radiums, and reeflux. I have ran or have seen all of the ones I have mentioned. The reeflux 12K have good color imo. If you want fast growth you can use the iwasaki 6.5K but you will not like the color.
BTW, what kind of ballast do you have and are you looking for se bulbs or de bulbs? If your looking for de bulbs the Pheonix bulbs are nice.
