Clams are usually easy to care for as long as you have metal halide lighting. I am not sure how they would fair under t5s but I do know they were impossible for me to keep under pc lighting. So it sounds like you should be fine. I like Crocea clams. They are bluish purple with black lines. www.aquahobby.com/marine/e_Tridacna_crocea.php

Clams are also great natural filters. They can uptake many harmful nutrients out of tank water. However, if they die they need to be taken out of the tank quickly.

Lets get some pics up. Anyone that has a clam please post a pic of its best pose. I am still looking I seen a pic of one on another sight that looked like it had blue lights running around the inside of it. That was cool.

Do crocea clams do better sitting on the sand or up on a rock?

They will do fine in either place, make sure you know where you are wanting to place it. Once its foot attaches to the rock or onto the glass under the sand it is almost impossible to move them. I would suggest only keeping a clam under halides or t5ho.

Do you have to have sand for it or can you put it directly on the glass?

I would put it on a small flat peice of live rock or somthing. givin as he said they are almost impossible to move, say you want to upgrade to larger tank in few years, now you have your clam stuck to the glass on the bottom of the tank. what you going to do? give it away with the tank?

Yes, this is a good point. You could also get them to stick to a small piece of plastic or tile then bury it in the sand.

I will definately do the rock thing. That would suck not to be able to get it out of the aquarium.
