so when I go to put up my tank was thinking of maybe doing it 1/2 sand other 1/2 crused coral becuse I love the look of sand and want to keep pistol shrimp and yellow watchmen pair. but I hear that sand tends to be trouble when you have alot of flow looking at having 50+ volume turnover. hate the look of BB so guess what im asking is should I try the 1/2 and 1/2 or go all CC or mix the two

Well I am here to tell you that I really like the sand but it is definately a pain. I cant turn my Vortech up more then about 2/3 maybe 3/4 because sand starts flying. I think I am going to slowly start pulling sand out of mine and do a BB tank and try to get zoos to grow on the glass for a bottom.

That would be crazy lol! Yeah I am afraid of the sand issue as well because in the new tank I want to do a piece of it as an open sand bed with a rock and a coral here and there.

Sand is a PITA but it gives a nice look.
I have seen tanks with the zoa bottom and that looks awesome as well

If I can get my zoo bottom the way I want it I think it will look neat. I love the sand and wish I could find a way to keep it but it is getting all over the place right now and I cant get full flow like I want.

If you have alot of flow I think it would still blow around. My tank right now looks like a sand storm all through the water column. I had to turn the vortech down more.
